On The Corner: A Documentary about rapper Guy2Bezbar during Barbès’ very own AFCON

Guy2Bezbar is reppin’ his 18th district from his music videos to his own moniker, “Bezbar” being a slang for Barbès-Rochechouart. But in his own neighborhood, before people knew him as a rapper, they knew him as a talented football player. And that’s the reason why his rap career took so long to actually go off, even after his track “Ah non c’est terrible” became a viral street hit in 2015. Six years later, Guy2Bezbar is finally having his moment—once again. But don’t even think he’s going anywhere. The Barbès he shows us is a place you grow attached to, a neighborhood that regenerates itself through the energy of its elders—figures more focused on guiding the next generation than on leaving the block behind. Whether they’re golden-age rappers, rising fashion label designers, or community leaders, they all play a role in shaping the vibrant life of this district. So it’s no surprise that to see Guy lace up his cleats again, you have to head to Square Léon, where he represents Congo in the 18th district’s own version of the Africa Cup of Nations. Welcome to La Calle.
